The Ready clovis Site, also known as the Lincoln Hills, is an important archaeological site located in St. Clair County, Illinois, near the present city of Belleville

Associated with the Clovis culture, a prehistoric paleo-indian culture, that dates back approximately 13,000 years, during the end of the last ice age exists in Illinois

Most Paleoindian sites there represent small, temporary, camps. In contrast, the Lincoln Hills site, located along the Mississippi River, in Jersey County covers a large area. It appears to have been visited many times, and was perhaps, occupied for longer periods.

The Clovis culture, is known for its distinctive fluted projectile points, often used as spear tips. And, for hunting megafauna like mammoths and mastodons
These people are among the earliest known inhabitants of north America. Their tools represent a significant technological innovation of the time.

The site has yielded a rich collection of points, blades, and other lithic artifacts. Many were sourced locally from the region’s abundant quarries
The site suggests a manufacturing and repair spot. Groups met, prepared for hunting and other activities.

Situated on a ridge overlooking an ancient river valley, the site would have provided strategic advantages
13,000 years ago, the area was likely a mix of grasslands, woodlands, and wetlands. And, would have offered a diverse range of resources.

The Ready-Lincoln Hills site, is one of the few well documented Clovis sites in the midwest. It illuminates the distribution and lifeways of early peoples
It helps document the spread of human populations across North America, and its changing landscapes.

An important reference for understanding early north America. The Ready-Lincoln hills archaeological site demonstrates the ingenuity of early hunter-gatherers and their ability to thrive in diverse and changing ice age landscapes.
