Mesolithic sites: Glanów, Chwalim, Całowanie & the bay of Puck/ gulf of Gdańsk
Found are abundant flint scatters, hunting/fishing remains; and, seasonal camp evidence. Some sites in the Polish plain preserve shallow pithouse or semi-subterranean features, though they are not universal at every site.
Southern Poland (Małopolska & Sandomierz Basin) Site Region Key Features
Brzezie near Kłaj Kraków region Several longhouses with preserved post rows, floors, storage pits; rich faunal and cereal remains;
Targowisko Near Bochnia Large LBK settlement; traces of longhouses, clay floors, figurines, and charred grain;
Samborzec Sandomierz Basin Early LBK → Malice transition; pits and longhouses with daub fragments;
Kraków–Nowa Huta–Mogiła/Pleszów Upper Vistula Multi-phase occupation; longhouses, ditches, ritual pits, painted pottery; and
Modlniczka, Zofipole Near Kraków Posthole patterns of longhouses and storage pits; imported obsidian.
SE borderlands, toward the Carpathians and Moravian Gate
Proto-LBK/“Danubian I” (influenced by Starčevo and Körös): Small semi-subterranean huts, early pottery, obsidian & Balkan contacts. Samborzec, Targowisko, Zofipole
Linear Band Pottery (LBK): Longhouses, cattle farming, wheat/barley crops, standard pottery decoration Brzezie Kłaj, Kraków–Nowa Huta, Modlniczka, Targowisko, Olszanica.
