One of the oldest treaty books to survive from antiquity. Since the renassance, or 14-17th centuries, is De Architecutra

It has been regarded as the first publishing on architectural theory.

Inside, it contained a variety of information. Perscriptions on planning and design. For military camps. Cities. And, structures.

The book gave information on Greek and Roman buildings
Each of the ten books, addressed different aspects. Including architecture, engineering, and building construction.

The topics covered the principles of design. The use of different building materials. Proportions of buildings. The role of the architect. And, the planning of cities.

Vitruvius also discusses the broader cultural context of architecture, emphasizing the connections between architecture, society, and the natural environment.

One of the famous concepts from “De Architectura” is the idea of the three principles of architecture: firmitas (firmness or durability), utilitas (commodity or functionality), and venustas (delight or beauty)
These principles are often referred to as the ‘Vitruvian triad’ and, have influenced architectural theory throughout history. His work even included mentioning some of the oldest information on log cabins. That is known to man.

Vitruvius’ work had a significant impact on architecture and the renaissance. Architects and scholars had rediscovered “De Architectura” during that period. The treatise continues to be an important historical source for understanding ancient Roman architectural practices. It remains influential in the study of architectural theory, the history of building.
